Abstract
In this paper, the authors present comparative analysis in the performance of Botkin, PisarenkoLebedev and Geniev-Balandin plastic flow surfaces. A number of various existing structures are used in the analysis. The above surfaces are incorporated in the finite element models used for calculations. The computer application programme used in the calculations incorporates the elastovisco- plastic algorithm model based on the associated rule of plasticity and the Bingham-Shvedov law of proportionality of stress level to the visco-plastic strain rate.
In the analysis, care is taken to accommodate the effect of singularity at the corners of the surfaces.
The performance of the above models is compared with corresponding models incorporating the classical plastic flow surfaces; namely: Mohr-Coulomb, Von-Mises, Tresca and Drucker-Prager surfaces. Different engineering materials are incorporated in the study for the identification of the suitability of application with one or the other of the given surfaces. Specially, examples involving soilstructure interaction are emphasized. Suitable Recommendations are formulated relating to their applicability to approximate (Le. model) in-situ conditions.
